Frequently Asked Questions
Gen 2 Dry Weight Magazine Insert
What is the Gen 2 Dry Weight Magazine Insert?
The Gen 2 Dry Weight is a realistic magazine-weight simulator for dry fire practice. It replicates the weight, balance, and insertion resistance of a fully loaded magazine—without the use of dummy rounds or live ammo. This generation includes an internal spring to simulate compression resistance and a modular bullet-shaped topper that mimics the feeding geometry of a live round.
What does it come with?
Each unit includes:
-
1x Weighted insert body
-
1x Magazine springs (5–6 coils each)
-
1x Bullet-shaped topper
How do I install it?
-
Disassemble your magazine: Remove the base pad and take out the factory spring and follower.
-
Insert the Dry Weight unit:
-
Insert it spring-side down (toward the base pad).
-
Make sure the bullet topper is pointed toward the muzzle, as a live round would be.
-
-
Reattach the base pad as normal.
How do I adjust spring tension?
You may trim the spring coils to fine-tune the resistance or make the same insert body work in multiple magazine sizes. Cut one coil at a time until you've achieved the desired performance
-
For shorter mags (e.g. Glock 17 w/ no extension), use fewer coils—typically 2–3.
-
For extended mags (e.g. 140mm USPSA mags), use the full spring or trim to fit—usually 5–6 coils.
Can I use this in different magazines?
Yes. The modular spring system allows you to adjust spring length and tension for compatibility across multiple magazine sizes. If you want to repurpose your insert for a different mag, simply change the spring length as needed.
Will this affect slide movement?
Yes—depending on your spring tension setup:
-
The bullet-shaped topper is designed to block the slide from moving forward, simulating a locked-back condition. It mimics a chambered round but cannot be fed, so it halts the slide.
-
However, if tuned properly (using fewer spring coils or reducing spring tension), it is possible to rack the slide with the bullet topper installed.
-
Your mileage may vary, and minor tuning may be needed depending on your specific firearm and magazine dimensions.
-
Is this compatible with my magazine?
We offer three fitments:
- Carry: For 15–17 round magazines (e.g., Glock 19 and 17 OEM mags).
-
Competition: For standard 18–24 round 9mm double-stack magazines. Compatible with MOST DOUBLE STACK 9MM MAGAZINES, e.g. Glock, Canik, Beretta, CZ, and other full size pistols that have at LEAST a 17 round tube AND an extension
-
2011 Style: For double-stack 1911/2011 platforms. Options are sized to fit 126mm, 140mm, 155mm, and 170mm mag bodies
- Carry: For 15–17 round magazines (e.g., Glock 19 and 17 OEM mags).
- PCC for use with Glock OEM 33rd magazines with UP TO a +10 extension
Can I use this with live ammunition?
No. This product is not intended for use with live ammunition under any circumstances. It is a dry fire training aid only.
