Gen 2 “Active” Dry Weight Magazine Insert – Realistic Dry Fire Training System
The Weight Is Over.
The Gen 2 Active Dry Weight Magazine Insert is a next-generation dry fire training system designed to replicate the weight, resistance, and function of a fully loaded magazine—without the need for live ammunition or dummy rounds.
Built for shooters who demand realism, this system improves reload training, manipulation drills, and dry fire consistency by adding true mechanical feedback and insertion resistance. Available at JV Training Accessories.
Key Benefits
- Realistic loaded magazine weight and balance
- Internal spring system adds true insertion resistance
- Modular bullet-style topper simulates live round geometry
- High consistency for dry fire and reload training
- Safe alternative to dummy rounds and live ammo use
- Designed for repeatable, match-grade training reps
What Makes Gen 2 Different
The Gen 2 “Active” system goes beyond static weight inserts by introducing functional magazine dynamics:
- Integrated internal spring simulates compression resistance
- Modular “Bullet Topper” replicates live round feed geometry
- Improved realism during insertion, seating, and handling
- Enhanced tactile feedback during dry fire manipulation
This creates a more authentic training experience that closely mirrors real-world magazine behavior.
What’s Included
Each Gen 2 Dry Weight kit includes:
- 1x Gen 2 weighted insert body
- 1x Internal magazine spring (trim-adjustable)
- 2x Bullet-style toppers (live round simulation heads)
- 1x Flat “Blank” topper (for reduced resistance or slide cycling setups)
Installation Overview
- Ensure firearm and magazine are completely unloaded
- Remove basepad, factory spring, and follower
- Insert Gen 2 unit into magazine body
- Spring side down toward basepad
- Bullet topper oriented toward muzzle
- Reinstall basepad securely
Adjustable Spring Tension System
The Gen 2 system is designed for tuning and cross-platform compatibility:
- Trim spring coils to adjust resistance
- 2–3 coils recommended for compact magazines
- 5–6 coils recommended for full-size / extended magazines
- Supports multiple magazine lengths with one system
This allows one insert to function across different platforms with minor tuning.
Slide Interaction & Function
The bullet-style topper is designed to interact with the slide system for realistic training feedback:
- Can simulate slide lock or feeding resistance depending on setup
- May prevent forward slide travel in full-tension configuration
- Can be tuned for partial slide cycling depending on spring setup
Performance may vary slightly depending on firearm and magazine tolerances.
Compatibility Options
Gen 2 inserts are available in multiple configurations:
- Compact: 15–17 round magazines (Glock 19 / Glock 17 style)
- Competition: 18–24 round double-stack 9mm magazines (Glock, CZ, Canik, Beretta, etc.)

Great Addition to Dry Fire Training
I use the Gen 2 weighted magazine inserts, and they have been a great addition to my dry fire practice. They add a more realistic feel to the gun and to reloads, and they are a simple way to make training more effective.

Impressed
First time buyer. Ordered on 140mm to "check it out", now ordering one more 140mm for USPSA dry fire and two 126mm for IDPA dry fire. And, very quick shipping! Thank you!

Gen 2 Dry Weight Insert
a dryfire essential to make your dry as safe and realistic as possible. using your real mags and feels the same as if you have ammunition, without any risk. A definite must get for all competitive shooters. Gen 1s were great but these are event better.

Great Product
I previously purchased the Generation 1 inserts and was happy with them, but Generation 2 really addressed the areas that needed improvement. The updated spring tension and the rounded plastic design (as opposed to the older flat version) make it feel much more like a loaded magazine. I used to use the DAA dry fire magazines, but my biggest issue was the lack of 141mm length options. These inserts solve that problem perfectly.

Just when I thought thy couldn’t get better
John literally knocked it out of the park. I love the first ones but these are the way. So realistic when loading and having the option to use a dummy round for ensuring you’re actually racking the first round is clutch. You definitely need these to up that dry fire and safe area tune up game (don’t use the dummy round in the safe area though).

Excellent upgrade to the gen 1
The upgrade John did to the gen 2 insert is absolutely phenomenal. I loved the gen 1 but did not like that it could occasionally create hang ups if the magwell caught between the feed lips and the top of the insert. The new innovation of spring tension and the insert now filling the magazine up to the feed lips really makes this a peerless product in the market. Getting a full weight dryfire mag using the same tubes as my live fire mags without worrying about dummy rounds and without creating any hitches with the feed lips has been an excellent experience. I can't recommend this enough.
